Ronaldo is due to play for his native Portugal against Liechtenstein tonight, which means Cristiano will have the opportunity to make even more history for himself.

Ronaldo will make his 197th appearance for his nation if he plays in the Euro 2024 qualifier, making him the player with the most caps in the history of international football.

After playing against Morocco in the World Cup, the 38-year-old tied the previous record-holder striker Badr Al-Mutawa of Kuwait.

He left the field in tears when Portugal was eliminated, which made fans wonder if he would ever play for his nation again. Ronaldo, however, was called up to manager Roberto Martinez’s first team for the first Euro 2024 qualifying matches after refining his play and form at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

And even after surpassing another player for all-time appearances, he is still committed to playing for the national team. “Records are my motivation,” remarked Ronaldo. “I aim to set a record for most career caps. That would fill me with pride. But it goes further than that. I still want to be called up regularly for Portugal.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is used to setting records, will further his amazing career by accomplishing yet another magnificent feat. Ronaldo, who naturally holds the record for Portugal, has now scored 118 goals, making him the all-time leading goal scorer in international football.

He has played in 183 Champions League games, appearing in 140 of those games, and scored 140 goals overall. Additionally, the legend has appeared in the most European Championship finals – 5, and scored the most goals in Euros history – 14 Ronaldo is likely to establish another record in tonight’s opening qualifying match as he starts his quest to make it to his sixth Euro final.
