The former Crystal Palace, Liverpool and England manager Roy Hodgson has reached a contract to take over as manager of Crystal Palace once more.
Since dismissing Patrick Vieira last Friday due to concerns over possible relegation, 75-year-old Hodgson was contacted by the club and now he’s having talks with the club, which could mark the incredible Selhurst Park comeback.
After placing 12th in the league the previous season, 13 points outside the bottom three, Vieira was appointed Eagles manager in 2021
A troubling 12-game losing streak came to an end in Vieira’s penultimate game in command, and in the three games before to Brighton, Palace failed to manage a single attempt on goal.
Dean Kiely and Paddy McCarthy, who have served as temporary coaches ever since Vieira was fired, are expected to stay on as members of Hodgson’s backroom staff, should he return.
Ray Lewington, Hodgson’s dependable right-hand-man, is also expected to be returning to the team.
From 2017 until 2021, Hodgson oversaw the management of Selhurst Park for four years, and he has kept up a pleasant rapport with the Eagles’ management since leaving.
Watford was under his management for a brief period last season, but he was unable to keep them out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
After leaving Watford, he announced that his days as a manager in the top division were finished, although he has since been talked out of retirement at least for a few more seasons. In his more than four decades of managing expertise, Hodgson has become a valuable asset to the football world.
