Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen is a target for Manchester United.
Frimpong has flourished this year under Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso. He is under contract with the Bundesliga club through June 2025
Since taking over earlier in the season, the former Liverpool midfielder has used the 21-year-old as a right wing-back, and Frimpong has responded by scoring eight goals and assisting nine others in all competitions.
Leverkusen defeated Schalke 3-0 last weekend, and the former Man City and Celtic defender scored once again as his team chased European qualifying. Alonso’s team is now sixth in the Bundesliga.
Despite being selected for the Netherlands World Cup team due to his performances, Frimpong did not play under former United manager Louis van Gaal.
Frimpong was left off of new Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman’s team for last month’s Euro 2024 Qualifiers and is still waiting to make his international debut.
Frimpong started his career at City but didn’t play for the main squad until moving on to Celtic in September 2019 Before transferring to Leverkusen in January 2021, he played 51 times for the Scottish champions.
Since taking over as manager of United in the summer, Erik ten Hag has used both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, with the former appearing on 33 occasions and the latter on 22.
Both players’ contracts are up at the end of the next campaign; Dalot’s was extended by a further 12 months in December of last year.
