Frank Lampard will take over as interim manager for Chelsea until the end of the current campaign. For Chelsea’s next match at Wolves on Saturday, Lampard should serve as the manager.
Just 48 hours after Graham Potter was fired, the 44-year-old was at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to see Chelsea’s goalless draw against Liverpool.
In January 2021, Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer Lampard was fired from his position as head coach at Stamford Bridge. After less than a year in the position, he was let go by Everton.
Luis Enrique, former manager of Barcelona and Spain, met with Chelsea officials in London to discuss their open managerial position. This led to a prospective caretaker move for Lampard.
The 52-year-old, who is currently jobless after resigning from his position as Spain’s coach after the World Cup, won the triple at Barcelona in 2014–15, taking home LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
As part of what they claim would be an “exhaustive process” to choose Potter’s replacement, Chelsea plans to interview up to seven applicants.
Also being discussed internally at Chelsea are Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, Oliver Glasner, and Luciano Spalletti. Roberto De Zerbi, manager of Brighton, is not thought to be on the list, though.
