As the club moves on with its search for a new manager, Chelsea officials have had their first face-to-face encounter with Julian Nagelsmann.
Although Nagelsmann is well-known across the Chelsea hierarchy—directors Chris Vivell and Laurence Stewart teamed with him at RB Leipzig—both Stewart and his fellow sports director Paul Winstanley travelled to Germany at the end of the previous week to meet with the former Bayern Munich manager.
If Chelsea decides Nagelsmann is the manager they want next, discussions between Chelsea and Bayern will be in place to attempt to address their desire for the German to move to London. Depending on when (and if) their ex-manager returns to Stamford Bridge, Bayern may be entitled to pay.
Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, and Ruben Amorim are a few of the options Chelsea is examining for the summer transfer window, in addition to Nagelsmann.
Current Sporting manager Amorim is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge and was a candidate for the position last autumn before the team chose Graham Potter in September.
Chelsea presently has no intentions to end Frank Lampard’s tenure as manager for the duration of this season, despite a less-than-impressive start to his lead. In his first three games, Lampard oversaw over three losses, during which time Chelsea only managed one goal in 270 minutes.
In comparison to Graham Potter, who led Chelsea before Lampard, the Blues’ expected goals have dropped significantly; over the three games, Lampard’s xG is 2.33 (0.78 per game). Potter had a total of 6.1 xG in his final three games before being fired, and his overall winning percentage was 1.39 xG.
