Tottenham Hotspur is optimistic that a bid of up to £15 million will be good to secure Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, according to the Football Insider.
After the 21-year-old impressed in his debut for struggling club Southampton, whose relegation from the Premier League was confirmed over the weekend, Spurs are interested in signing him. Tottenham reportedly sees Bazunu as a top candidate to replace Hugo Lloris in the starting lineup next season.
36-year-old Hugo Lloris has one year left on his contract but is going to leave the team this summer. The club captain, who hasn’t had the best of seasons so far, is allegedly considering leaving Tottenham after receiving a serious financial offer from a Saudi Arabian team.
Bazunu, who reportedly paid £12 million to go from Man City to the Saints last summer, has made 32 Premier League appearances over 37 overall this season, giving up 61 goals while recording five shutouts. Following successful loan stints at Portsmouth and Rochdale, the 13-cap Republic of Ireland international won a berth as the Premier League’s starting centre.
Bazunu’s progress has impressed Tottenham, who have been closely monitoring him. He matches the description of the kind of player Spurs are hoping to invest in this summer, with a focus on young players with the ability to grow under the new management.
Player sales to the Premier League elite clubs are due to follow after Southampton’s relegation from the top division.
