Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram from Nice are in talks with Liverpool about potential transfers to Merseyside this summer.
This summer, as the Redw look to retool after a disappointing 2022–23 season, they are on the gunt for two or three new midfielders. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita will all be leaving when their contracts expire at the end of June, and this has already been confirmed.
It’s been confirmed that Alexis Mac Allister will be joining Liverpool from Brighton, while the hunt for other players to strengthen the Reds continues.
According to sources, in order to assess Kone and Thuram’s situations in advance of the summer transfer window, Liverpool first spoke with each player’s rep team.
Liverpool has been looking into a long list of potential midfield targets, including players like Mason Mount of Chelsea, Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, Ruben Neves of Wolves, and Youri Tielemans of Leicester.
The 22-year-old French duo Kone and Thuram have many English teams trying to win them over, in addition to Liverpool.
While Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham have been keeping an eye on the pair’s situation at their clubs, Newcastle happened to have been in contact with them already.
They have attracted interest from a number of teams in Europe, including Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and PSG.
Thuram has received one senior-level cap for France, whereas Kone has only been a part of Didier Deschamps’ setup this year and is vying for his first call-up.
