Less than a year after becoming the highest-paid player at Nottingham Forest, Jesse Lingard has been let go by the club.
After his contract with childhood club Manchester United expired, Lingard left for Forest last summer on a 12-month agreement as one of 30 newcomers for the 2022–23 season. However, he didn’t manage to make the impression needed.
The 30-year-old failed to score or provide an assist in any of his 17 Premier League games for Forest while receiving the highest base wage of any Forest player of £115,000 per week plus incentives.
Lingard was persuaded to join the team after turning down the opportunity to return to West Ham by Miltiadis Marinakis, the son of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Lingard had some injury concerns at the end of the season, keeping him out as the team just about held onto surviving in the Premier League.
In addition to Lingard’s release, Andre Ayew, Cafu, Jack Colback, Jordan Smith, and Lyle Taylor are set to exit the club as well. Keylor Navas, Dean Henderson, and Renan Lodi, meanwhile, have gone back to the clubs which they were on loan from to Forest.
