Brendan Rodgers has reached an agreement with Celtic to become the club’s manager for the second time.
Enzo Maresca and Pascal Jansen, the managers of AZ Alkmaar and Leicester City, had been on Celtic’s shortlist, but Rodgers rapidly stood out as the best choice to succeed Ange Postecoglou. After winning a record-setting domestic triple with the club, Postecoglou recently departed the Hoops for the open position at Tottenham Hotspur.
Rodgers, who won the domestic triple twice with the team during his previous tenure as Celtic manager, is the other candidate to succeed Postecoglou.
When Leicester City fired Rodgers in April due to a bad run of results, he was unemployed up until now. Rodgers departed the Foxes, but the team was relegated from the Premier League, so things didn’t get any better.
John Kennedy, who turned down a job offer from Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur to work with Rodgers at Parkhead, will remain at the club to serve as a coach alongside him.
Before experiencing a disappointing last season with the team, Rodgers excelled at the King Power Stadium, taking home the FA Cup and the Community Shield. Now in charge at Celtic, Rodgers will want to bring home even more trophies for Scotland.
