To release Josko Gvardiol, RB Leipzig has stated its’ asking price to Manchester City, which is set to be a record transfer sum.
Gvardiol has long been one of City’s top targets this summer, and the English club is currently advancing in the negotiations for the Croatian player.
With the transfer of Spain international Aymeric Laporte, the Premier League and recently crowned European champions want to create space for Gvardiol in their lineup for the upcoming season.
A deal should be reached shortly as negotiations between Gvardiol’s reps and City have gone smoothly and personal terms have been agreed upon “in principle”. Leipzig is requesting a figure more than the £80 million Manchester United paid Leicester for Harry Maguire in 2019—the current record deal for a defender—in the ongoing negotiations between the two teams.
Despite City’s desire to avoid exceeding Leipzig’s asking price of €100 million (£85.5 million), City admits that a record-breaking offer is probably needed to close the deal.
