James Maddison’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur is about to finalise after Tottenham reached an agreement with Leicester over the price for the player.
For most of this month, Spurs and the Foxes have been negotiating in the hopes of securing a deal for long-term target Maddison. News emerged on Tuesday that Maddison will be one of the new Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou’s first summer acquisitions.
Tottenham and Leicester have come to terms on a fee that, if all parties are satisfied with it, could exceed £45 million. Madison will soon undergo medical examinations and complete the transfer.
Leicester, which had been relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022–2023 season, had hoped to sell Maddison for £60 million, but later backed down and agreed to sell him for a lower price.
Although Newcastle United had also expressed a strong interest in the midfielder, the transfer to north London was made possible largely by Maddison’s desire, since the Magpies had recently backed off of negotiations.
