There “is no agreement,” according to RB Leipzig’s sports director Max Eberl, regarding Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol between the German club and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old’s estimated market price is £86 million, and if City were to pay that sum, he would become the most expensive defender in football history.
Eberl responded, “The new information regarding Josko astonished us all,” when asked if a settlement had been made. “Right now, we’re still far apart. As you can see, Josko is here, therefore it’s not true,” he said.
“He hasn’t done anything behind our backs. I’m sure; he’s a complete professional. There is no agreement, not even a close one.”
Since transferring from Dinamo Zagreb to the German team in July 2021, the centre-back has played 87 games. He scored in the first leg of RB Leipzig’s Champions League round of 16 match versus City last year, which they lost 8-1 overall.
Since making his debut for Croatia in 2021, he has earned 21 caps, and he helped his nation place third in the 2022 World Cup and finish second to Spain in this year’s Nations League.
