Manchester United is almost ready to make Rasmus Hojlund their third signing of the summer transfer window.
Hojlund just joined Atalanta last summer, but the 20-year-old has already persuaded United to part with a guaranteed £64m (€75m) thanks to his 10 goals in 34 games while playing alongside more experienced players. The add-ons total £8.5 million (€10 million).
Prior to this, Atalanta turned down three proposals from United, the most recent of which was for £50 million. However, Hojlund and his personal terms of a prospective five-year deal had already been worked out, and the player has long intended to join Old Trafford this summer.
Hojlund missed Saturday’s preseason friendly between Atalanta and Bournemouth due to injury, but the Bergamo team has already found his replacement in El Bilal Toure of Almeria.
Since Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo departed the team within a few months of one another, United has been in desperate need of a new centre striker. Erik ten Hag is renowned for his ability to identify and nurture young talent from his years at Ajax, and despite his inexperience, Hojlund might cost half as much as a more seasoned goal scorer like Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen.
Hojlund will shortly follow Mason Mount and Andre Onana in moving to Manchester United this summer if there are no unforeseen obstacles.
