For Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte, Manchester City has accepted an undisclosed bid from Saudi team Al-Nassr.
The 29-year-old made 43 starts during the 2021–22 campaign, but Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake saw more action during City’s Treble-winning campaign under Pep Guardiola.
Laporte’s ability to play the ball out from defence helped City win the Premier League title five times in the past six seasons after Guardiola took over 18 months earlier. Later, City paid £77 million to sign Croatian Josko Gvardiol, aged 21, as another left-sided defender this summer.
City signed Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 for £57 million, a then-club record transfer cost. Laporte then changed his national allegiance from France to Spain in 2021. He has also earned 22 caps for Spain and helped that country win the UEFA Nations League final in June.
If the transfer goes through, Laporte may play for Al-Nassr alongside players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Alex Telles. After acquiring Ronaldo in December of last year, the club added players like Mane, Brozovic, Telles, and Seko Fofana this summer.
