Gabriel was handed a start on his international debut and played for 85 minutes before leaving the field and returning to the bench, where an ice pack could be seen on his injured leg.
Losing Gabriel would make Mikel Arteta extremely vulnerable at the back as he prepares for key games against Everton, PSV Eindhoven, and archrival Tottenham Hotspur. At the moment, Arsenal can’t also count on both Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey due to both players being injured.
According to Brazilian news, the 25-year-old underwent scans following the Bolivia game, but no serious injuries were discovered. The centre-back is now anticipated to keep his starting position when Brazil plays Peru in their next 2026 qualifying match early on Wednesday morning.
Gabriel, a near-permanent starter for Arsenal the previous season, had a sluggish start to the current campaign, coming off the bench late in the Gunners’ opening two Premier League games before going without a play in the third.
This summer, Gabriel was approached about a potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League, but he had no interest in making such a move, and Arsenal turned down any offers.
