James Maddison, a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has been awarded the August Premier League Player of the Month.
Following his summer transfer from Leicester City, Maddison has settled in well at Spurs. Shortly after his arrival, he was appointed one of Son Heung-min’s new vice-captains for the London team. He also received Harry Kane’s number 10 shirt after Kane moved to Bayern Munich.
Under Ange Postecoglou, Maddison has made a strong start to his Tottenham career. Before scoring the first goal in a 2-0 triumph at Bournemouth a fortnight later, he picked up two assists in their opening weekend 2-2 draw at Brentford. Between those two games, Spurs defeated Manchester United 2-0 at home with the big help of the Three Lions squad member.
Other candidates for the August award included Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kaoru Mitoma and Rodri of Manchester City.
Along with his outstanding on-field exploits, Maddison rapidly gained the support of the Spurs supporters with remarks about his ambition to join the team.
“I could simply picture myself playing for Tottenham, with that squad, wearing that kit, and in that stadium,” Maddison said.
When Sheffield United visits Tottenham on Saturday, Maddison and the team will be back in Premier League action.
