According to Football Insider, Joao Palhinha’s new Fulham deal does not ensure that he will stay at the team after the January transfer window.
Palhinha participated in 40 games in all competitions as Marco Silva’s team won the Premier League’s 10th spot last year. The Cottagers reportedly paid under £20 million to get the aggressive midfielder from Sporting CP in 2022, and the Fulham player has already made four appearances this season and scored in last month’s 2-2 draw between the London team and Arsenal.
Palhinha, 28, recently signed a new deal with Fulham that runs until 2028 with the possibility of a further 12 months extension. The transfer to Bayern Munich on the final day of the transfer window fell through because Fulham were unable to find a replacement for the Portugal international, who was also the subject of intense interest from West Ham.
Before the upcoming January transfer window, Bayern Munich is reportedly still interested, but the London club will now want a higher price to sell Palhinha because he recently signed a new contract.
According to a reliable source, the contract does not have a release clause. During the summer transfer window, Man United was also eager to sign the Fulham midfielder, but after withdrawing from the Cottagers’ payment demands for Palhinha, the Red Devils finally decided to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a loan-to-buy arrangement.
