After a run of 12 games without a victory in any competition—their last triumph occurring back on New Year’s Eve 2022—Vieira has departed from London’s Palace.
Palace lost to Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup as a result of that run, dropping to within three points of the relegation zone.
A 1-0 loss against Brighton in Vieira’s final game as Palace’s manager was the south London club’s fourth straight game without a goal.
As a result of earlier losses to Aston Villa and Manchester City, as well as a scoreless draw against Liverpool at home, Vieira’s team failed to record a shot on target. This is the first time a Premier League team has done so in three straight games since Opta began collecting statistics in 2003 In a statement, Palace president Steve Parish said: “It is with great sadness that this difficult choice has been made. We ultimately believed that a change was required to offer us the best opportunity of maintaining our Premier League status since recent league results have put us in a perilous situation. However, Patrick has had a tremendous influence since joining us in the summer of 2021, and he is well-regarded by everyone.”
Last season, Vieira managed to lead the team to a good 12th-place finish and a Wembley FA Cup semifinal. This was a difficult and important campaign for the club considering the squad changes that were made before he arrived.
“Patrick has given everything to the club, and we are all grateful for him and his team’s dedication.”, added Parish.
Along with Vieira, coaches Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson, and Sad Agoun have also departed the club, according to confirmation from Palace. During the time that a new manager is being sought, Dean Kiely will continue to serve as the goalkeeping coach.
