Aston Villa has joined Arsenal and several other teams in the competition to recruit Moussa Diaby this summer.
The French attacker, 24, is set to depart the Bundesliga team this summer due to interest from many Premier League teams. In 48 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s team last season, Diaby scored 14 goals and contributed 11 further assists. Given that he is a left-footed right winger with plenty of speed, the French winger has a similar profile to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, making him a somewhat obvious choice for the Gunners.
Leverkusen’s demand of more than £50 million has prompted Villa to enter the battle for Diaby’s signing. Newcastle and Manchester United have both shown keen interest in the French attacker as well, but it could be a good idea for Arsenal to sign Diaby before their rivals.
Ahead of a demanding 2023–24 season for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta wants to acquire a new dynamic forward to his team, and Diaby might be the ideal Saka rival. The previous two seasons have seen a lot of reliance on the England international, who last season played 3194 more minutes than any other Arsenal player.
Reiss Nelson just agreed to a long-term contract extension at the Emirates Stadium and is still a vital member of Arteta’s team, although his performance is noticeably worse than Saka’s. To assist the Gunners’ attack as Arteta attempts to end the team’s wait for a Premier League championship, Diaby’s flexibility and ability to play similarly to the England international make him an alluring option.
