Christopher Nkunku’s long-awaited transfer to Chelsea from RB Leipzig has been finalised.
The Blues and France international Nkunku first came to a deal soon after the summer 2022 transfer window closed. Nkunku is the first player new manager Mauricio Pochettino has officially signed.
Even though the 25-year-old struggled with injuries during the 2022–23 campaign, he was still able to have a significant effect in his final season at Leipzig, scoring 23 goals and dishing out nine assists in 36 games across all competitions.
After helping Leipzig finish the 2022–23 season in the top four and win the DFB–Pokal, Nkunku has officially completed his transfer to West London on a six-year deal.
“I am really thrilled to be joining Chelsea,” Nkunku stated in a statement. “It took a lot of work to get me to the team, and I am eager to get to know my new coach and teammates as well as show the Chelsea fans what I am capable of on the field.”
“I’ve played in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, but now I want to play in the Premier League, one of the top leagues in the world. I’m eager to take on this task and am honoured to wear the Chelsea jersey.”
