The most notable match-up eliminated from the 2023–24 Champions League group stage is Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich, while Real Madrid has been placed in the same group as Napoli.
The 32 qualifiers were placed into eight groups of four, numbered A through H, in the draw’s traditional structure. All participating clubs were placed into one of the four pots before to the draw, with one team from each pot entering each group. No more than one club from a single nation could be included in the same group.
The current Champions League and Europa League champions, Manchester City and Sevilla, respectively, took the top two spots in pot one. The league champions from UEFA’s highest-ranked leagues, except for the Premier League because Manchester City already had the title of English champions, joined them.
City will once more compete in Europe against RB Leipzig in an effort to protect their crown. Meanwhile, Newcastle has been placed in the most difficult group of all, together with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund, on their first return to the Champions League in 20 years.
Belgian champions Royal Antwerp were put in the same group as five-time champion Barcelona in their first season back in the league since 1957/58.
