Ilkay Gündogan is set to sign with Barcelona once his contract with Manchester City ends at the end of the month.

Gündogan, the captain of Manchester City, has ended a seven-year tenure, following a season in which he helped the Citizens win the triple. Gundogan is now expected to sign a two-year contract with Xavi’s team, with the option for an extension for another year.

As a result of Sergio Busquets leaving the team this summer, Gündogan’s transfer to Barcelona will increase Xavi’s choices in the middle of the field. The experienced player has chosen to join Lionel Messi in joining MLS team Inter Miami.

Barcelona issued a statement on the club’s official website confirming the deal: “Ilkay Gündogan and FC Barcelona have agreed for the German international to sign with the Catalans once his deal with Manchester City expires. He will sign on for two seasons, ending on June 30, 2025, with an additional year of extending the contract being possible. The amount of his buyout clause is 400 million euros.”
