According to reports, Newcastle United has a “solid” interest in Watford striker Joao Pedro, who may join the Magpies this summer.
The Championship club turned down the Champions League contenders’ offer of £30 million with add-ons for the versatile attacker last summer. Newcastle has continued to be interested in Pedro and has been keeping a close eye on him this year as they prepare a fresh prospective transfer.
Young Pedro, who is only 21, is viewed by the Premier League’s elite teams as a great prospect with the speed and adaptability to play in a variety of positions at the highest level.
He is capable of playing on both sides, behind the striker, and at centre-forward, and has done so well for Watford this year. The interest from Newcastle is “solid,” according to sources.
Last year, Pedro signed a long-term contract with Watford that would keep him at Vicarage Road until June 2028. Reportedly, the Brazilian makes £35,000 a week playing for the Hertfordshire-based club. In 31 Championship games this season, 27 of which were starts, he has registered nine goals and four assists.
All the amazing stats aside, however, the Brazilian has a much less impressive goal-scoring record in the Premier League, having netted just three times in 31 games over two distinct years with Watford.
The Hornets are now 12th in the Championship and with how things are going for them at the minute, it’s less than likely that we’ll see them move up in the standings for the remainder of the season.
