Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo each scored one goal in the first half to help Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0. Nick Pope was sent off 22 minutes into the first half, leaving Newcastle with only 10 players.
Alisson made a great save to keep Miguel Almiron from scoring early on, and Liverpool scored twice in six minutes to go up 2-0 19 minutes into the game.
Two minutes later, Pope was sent off for touching the ball outside of the box. This made Newcastle’s nightmare last even longer.
Even though Newcastle was down to 10 men, they didn’t give up and had two big chances to get a goal back.
Alisson stopped Allan Saint-shot Maximin’s by deflecting it onto the post. Just before halftime, Dan Burn hit the crossbar.
In the second half, Liverpool was in charge, but they couldn’t find the final pass they needed to win.
Alisson made another big save with five minutes left to stop Callum Wilson, and the Reds won at St. James’ Park and get all three points.
