Goalkeeper Andre Onana’s £47.2 million (55 million euro) transfer from Inter Milan to Manchester United has been completed.
The 27-year-old Cameroonian has agreed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with a possible 12-month extension. The former Ajax goalkeeper will travel to the United States with the United team for their preseason tour.
“It is a tremendous honour to join Manchester United”, he said. “I’ve worked incredibly hard my entire life to get to this point, overcoming many challenges.”
David de Gea, who left United in July when his contract expired after 12 years with the team, will be replaced as the team’s starting goalkeeper by Onana. He continued, “Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our net and help the team will be another amazing experience. With new teammates and new goals to pursue, this is the beginning of a new journey for me.”
“Manchester United has a long history of outstanding goalkeepers, and I now promise to do everything in my power to establish my own legacy in the years to come.”
