A three-year deal has been signed by Patrick Vieira to become the manager of Ligue 1 team RC Strasbourg.

Since being fired as the manager of Premier League team Crystal Palace in March, the 47-year-old former Arsenal player had been jobless.

Patrick Vieira expressed his extreme happiness about joining Racing. “I am aware of this club’s identity and history, the enthusiasm it inspires, and the significance it holds for the football-loving community in its area.”

Strasbourg, who finished 15th in the French premier league last season, five points above the relegation zone, recently reached an agreement with Chelsea’s owners to purchase the bulk of the club. Vieira has experience working with many clubs. Before becoming the head coach of New York City FC, a team that is a part of the City Football Group, he was the under-23 coach for Manchester City.

He will take over from 61-year-old Frederic Antonetti, who saved Strasbourg from relegation last season but decided to part ways later on.

When he stopped playing for Manchester City in 2011, Vieira started his coaching career. In 2013, he was appointed head coach of the club’s top development team.

The Frenchman moved to New York and the MLS in 2015 before coming back to Europe with Nice in the Ligue 1 three years later.
