After Mohamed Salah was courted this summer by Saudi Pro League winners Al Ittihad, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not appreciate being questioned about Salah’s future.
At the beginning of September, Al Ittihad announced their desire to spend a record amount to get the Egyptian forward and their belief that Salah would be receptive to the unexpected switch.
However, Liverpool insisted that Salah was not for sale during the short controversy and refused to approve a trade before the Saudi Pro League transfer deadline last week. Salah will now remain at Liverpool for at least the foreseeable future, although rumours about his departure persist.
In a news conference before the Premier League match against Wolves on Saturday, Klopp was questioned about potential future interest from Saudi Pro League teams in Salah.
“You must be kidding me, right? Why don’t you ask this now rather than waiting until December?” Klopp answered.
Salah has had a strong opening to the 2023–24 campaign, scoring in each of Liverpool’s first four games. In Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea to start the season, he assisted Luis Diaz, and in their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at home, he gave the Reds the lead with a rebound from a failed penalty.
Then, in their 2-1 triumph against Newcastle United, Salah provided Darwin Nunez with the last-second assist that won the game. He then added Liverpool’s third and final goal in their 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
