Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, with fresh reports suggesting the North London club are preparing to open formal talks with the Ligue 1 side over a potential summer transfer.

French newspaper L’Equipe claims Spurs are close to initiating contact with Rennes regarding the 23-year-old forward, signalling a step forward in what has been quietly building as one of the more intriguing transfer sagas of the summer. While Tottenham have yet to submit a concrete offer, they are said to be holding off until Rennes put a price tag on their prized asset.

Kalimuendo, a France Under-21 international, caught the eye with a prolific campaign last season, netting 18 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. His impressive return highlights why Spurs see him as a strong option to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the new Premier League season.

However, Spurs will face stiff competition for Kalimuendo’s signature. Newcastle United and Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are also reported to be circling, making this one a battle between clubs keen on snapping up a young forward with both raw talent and proven goal-scoring ability at a high level.

The former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate has two years left on his contract at Rennes, giving his current club a solid negotiating position. Rennes are expected to hold out for a substantial fee, aware of Kalimuendo’s rising stock after a breakthrough season.

From Tottenham’s point of view, Kalimuendo fits the profile of the kind of forward they want to bring in: young, hungry, and with top-flight experience across both French and European football. Whether Spurs can meet Rennes’ valuation remains to be seen, but the club’s apparent willingness to step up their interest suggests they are serious about adding firepower to their squad.

As the transfer window progresses, Kalimuendo’s situation will be one to watch closely, with several clubs vying for his signature in what promises to be a competitive race.
