If Leeds United is relegated to the EFL, they will probably have to sell their talented winger Wilfried Gnonto. Good teams from around Europe have taken notice of the 19-year-old following his breakout Premier League campaign, as the club sees him as a top talent with room to grow.
Gnonto is primarily drawing interest from Serie A teams, due to his senior caps for Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri team which helped develop the young player into a well-known star in his native Italy.
Following his strong performances for Leeds in the Premier League this season, the 10-cap ace is also being watched by numerous Premier League teams. Gnonto, who reportedly makes £20,000 per week at Elland Road, moved to Leeds from FC Zurich in the summer of 2022 and immediately signed a five-year contract.
Leeds believes that keeping Gnonto on board might be challenging, especially if they are to return to the second division of English football. It’s now widely believed that the Yorkshire club may request a transfer sum for him this summer that is higher than £40 million. In 23 games for Leeds this season, the winger has four goals and three assists.
Gnonto, though, has primarily been restricted to a spot on the bench since Javi Gracia was named the team’s new manager. In the Premier League, Leeds is currently ranked 16th, one point above the relegation zone. Before their crucial match against 17th-place Leicester on Tuesday (25 April), the Whites had dropped four of their previous five games.
