Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk will miss the Blues’ next Premier League match against recently promoted Luton Town on August 26 at Stamford Bridge due to an injury sustained during training.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said that Mudryk would not be available for the match against Luton Town, but he said he’s certain that the Ukrainian will return to play shortly.
Mudryk is the seventh first-team player to be out with an injury this year, adding to Chelsea’s recent string of injury setbacks. Chelsea’s injured list now includes Mudryk in addition to Reece James, the team captain, Benoit Badiashile, Marcus Bettinelli, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, and Christopher Nkunku.
“It’s nothing serious, but he’ll be out for a few days. For tomorrow’s game, he won’t be available. We have high hopes for him, but it’s not a big deal because he will soon be back playing,” Pochettino stated.
In a preseason friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion, Mudryk scored his first goal while wearing the Chelsea jersey, and the Ukrainian was expected to secure a permanent spot in Pochettino’s starting eleven in the next campaign following a sluggish start at Stamford Bridge.
After being held to a 1-1 draw by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the season opener and suffering a 1-3 loss to London rivals West Ham United last week, Chelsea is celebrating a victory in the current Premier League campaign.
They will now take on Luton Town on August 26 before facing AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup’s second round on August 31.
