When they start their campaigns on day two in Paris, Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper will try to keep British interest in the singles draw of the French Open.
The French wildcard Benoit Paire goes off against British number one Norrie in the opening round, while main draw rookie Draper takes on Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
On Monday, the two-time winner Novak Djokovic and the top-ranked man in the world Carlos Alcaraz are also competing. While Alcaraz plays Flavio Cobolli, Djokovic faces Aleksandar Kovacevic.
Carolina Garcia, the fifth seed in the women’s draw, will take against Xiyu Wang of China on Court Philippe Chatrier to win over her home audience.
Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 winner from Latvia, will face the Czech Republic’s Tereza Martincova, while Petra Kvitova, a two-time semi-finalist, will compete against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Jannik Sinner, an eighth seed from Italy, will compete against Alexandre Muller in the first night session of the 2023 competition.
Alcaraz starts French Open bid
After Dan Evans’ defeat on Sunday, Norrie and Draper were the only British players still in the Roland Garros singles competition. No British women qualified for the tournament.
Norrie, who advanced to his first major semifinal at Wimbledon in 2017 and won the Rio Open on clay in February, had advanced to the third round in each of his last two French Open outings. His match vs. Paire will be the first of the day on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
