Brit Andy Murray has been given a wildcard to compete at the Surbiton Trophy, the first competition of the British grass-court season.
The 36-year-old withdrew from the French Open to concentrate on his Wimbledon preparation. In the men’s draw, Murray will compete with British No. 2 Dan Evans, who will be the top seed.
Three-time major champion Murray said, “It’s fantastic to play somewhere that has the feel of a classic club. I’m expecting to get some good matches and practice in there over the week in front of the British fans.”
Meanwhile, USA legend Venus Williams accepted a wildcard to the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham, as stated by the LTA on Thursday.
42-year-old Williams, who is a five-time Wimbledon winner, will be competing in only her second match at the women’s event on June 19. The women’s draw at Surbiton will feature fellow Brits Jodie Burrage, Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, Katie Swan, and Heather Watson.
On June 5, the Surbiton Trophy will begin.
