Deontay Wilder has been warned that Andy Ruiz Jr. is “coming” for him next in a social media statement by the former unified heavyweight champion.
Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) stated that the former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) is still up for negotiation, which might be problematic given Andy’s most recent unsuccessful discussions with Tyson Fury. The talks broke down after Ruiz reportedly demanded an outrageous $20 million for the Fury bout, and as a result, the Gypsy King moved on.
The fact that Ruiz wants close to $20 million for a fight against Wilder is crazy, given that it would be a major PPV event in the US if he fights British champ Fury, who doesn’t have a significant fan following here.
If this fight goes through, it will be highly unexpected because Wilder would wash his hands of Ruiz as soon as the 33-year-old starts talking about his outrageous wage demands and search for a heavyweight contender to give him his summer tune-up in preparation for his battle with Anthony Joshua in December in Saudi Arabia.
“Wilder, man, we’re coming.” Andy Ruiz Jr. announced his upcoming bout with Deontay Wilder on social media, saying, “We’re just negotiating right now. Ruiz is not the opponent Wilder needs right now to prepare him for the much taller 6’6″ Joshua in December, so trying to fight him would be a huge waste of time.”
After earning MASSIVE money in his two bouts with Joshua in 2019, Ruiz fights much less frequently now. Ruiz supposedly earned $10 million from those fights, but since then, his desire to compete has fallen to the point that he has only engaged in combat twice in the past four years—matches against the 40-year-old Chris Arreola in 2021 and the 43-year-old Luis Ortiz in 2022.
