Fans stormed the ring after a contentious decision, which led to a mass brawl during Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition match against John Gotti III.
Boxing ref Kenny Bayliss stopped the fight in the sixth round, prompting Gotti to lash out at Mayweather, 46.
Then, as Bayliss struggled to control the tension, teams from both sides flooded the ring. The 30-year-old grandson of former New York crime boss John Gotti is known as Gotti III.
The melee sparked several altercations both in front of and behind the stage of the FLA Live Arena in Florida.
After the fight, Mayweather, a former boxing world champion, was heard saying in a social media video: “That’s why they pay the big bucks, because I put on a show.”
Police had to enter the arena to clear it, and those who did not leave right away risked being charged.
Mayweather, who had a 50-0 record entering retirement, has fought mixed martial artists and YouTube celebrities in a number of exhibition matches.
His eight-round fight with YouTuber Logan Paul in 2021 marked the last time his exhibition tour had visited this country.
