World No.1 Alcaraz defeats Serbian Dušan Lajovic in the Miami Open and climbs to the last round 16

Ranked as world’s no.1 Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz has easily managed to overcome Dušan Lajovic to go to the Miami Open’s round of 16

The 19-year-old Spanish reigning champion triumphed 6-0 7-6 (7-5) to set up a match against Tommy Paul of America.

To maintain his position at the top of the rankings, Alcaraz, who has won 16 of his 17 matches so far this year and hasn’t lost a set in his last two events, must win the championship.

Norwegian third seed Casper Ruud is out after losing to Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Sixth-seeded Russian Rublev defeated Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-2, and seventh-seeded Dane Rune defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-2.

Following his 6-4 6-4 victory over Canadian Denis Shapovalov, ninth-seeded American Rune will now face Fritz in the following round.

After Slovak Alex Molcan, the opponent of fourth seed Russian Daniil Medvedev, withdrew from the competition, Medvedev advanced without having to play.

Belinda Bencic, a Swiss player and the ninth seed in the women’s draw, lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova, a Russian player, 7-6 (10-8) 6-3.

Canadian Bianca Andreescu defeated Sofia Kenin 6-4, 6-4, setting up a matchup between Alexandrova and the Canadian in the fourth round.

Aryna Sabalenka, the winner of the Australian Open, defeated Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2. She will now face Barbora Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion, who overcame Madison Keys 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

Karolina Pliskova, the 17th-seeded Czech player, was defeated by Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-2
